With first dates come lots of nerves, anxiety and questions. How can you turn an awkward first dates with the person of your dreams into the relationship you’ve dreamed of? Here are a few tips to get you moving in the right direction.
Dress like a normal person
Yes, you might have these amazing new skyscraper heels with make your legs look incredible except you can’t actually walk in them? NO. Yes you might have this incredible corsetry vintage dress which is amazing except you can’t actually breathe in it? NO. You can be as edgy as you like, but don’t wear clothes that turn basic movement into a challenge. Casual rather than formal, with a leaning towards ‘smart casual’, is the norm these days. It’s a good idea to invest in some new clothes and try to update your look. Men should avoid what women call the ‘beige’ look. For both sexes, think crisp, clean, smart, lively, assured and confident.
Never empty your glass
If you want to stay in control of the date and keep him interested then take it easy and don’t overindulge. If your date becomes your boyfriend then there will be plenty of opportunities for both of you to let your hair down. But a guy will most likely be a little scared if you knock back a few shots before dinner.
Forget Facebook
If you want to let your friends know how much you loved that latte on the way to work this morning that’s well and good. But do you really want a guy you just met to see all those old photos you’ve been tagged in? Retain a bit of mystery and avoid sending him a friend request until you’ve got to know each other better. Speaking of which…
Try not to fill up every silence
It might seem like a good idea to keep the conversation going by unleashing each and every funny story in your back catalog, but first dates are about getting to know each other.
Do your own thing
Never make someone the center of your world. Men love doing their own thing, and they love a woman who does her own thing even more. Hang out with your friends, go for a meal with your sister, have drinks after work, and after a certain amount of time you will both start doing many of these things together. Take it slowly and don’t rush into spending every evening with him/her. Everyone wants his own space and really appreciate you if you give it to him.
A bad relationship you had in the past should stay exactly there, in the past. Give a new person the chance to prove him/herself.
